Northwestern State University’s Nursing Continuing Education is accredited as a provider of nursing continuing professional development by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.
This event is joint provided by NSU Nursing Continuing Education and The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center.
4.5 Contact Hours of Nursing Continuing Education credit will be awarded to Registered Nurses upon the completion of the offering (full attendance is required, please make sure to attend the breakout sessions for “professionals”).

Conference Goals
The Bridge Alzheimer’s & Dementia Resource Center’s 5th Annual Education Conference: Engage, Empower, Educate, aims to provide practical knowledge, meaningful support, and renewed inspiration for those caring for individuals living with dementia. Our conference equips both family and professional caregivers with tools and strategies to enhance care, improve quality of life, and foster compassionate connections.

• Learn how to engage, and interact with individuals living with dementia
• Help families, staff, and all participants achieve empathy with aging
• Understand the progression of Alzheimer’s and other dementias
• Understand the stages of Alzheimer’s and other dementias
• Learn ways to reduce one’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s or other dementias
About the Attendees
The conference is designed for family caregivers, professionals including registered nurses, social workers, counselors, case managers, nursing home administrators, nurse practitioners, licensed practical nurses, professional caregivers, certified nursing assistants, and others whose lives involve taking care of individual(s) affected by Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
2025 Keynote Speaker
Melanie Bunn, RN, MS, GNP
Melanie Bunn is a nurse, teacher, trainer, speaker, coach, consultant, researcher, mom, daughter and sister. She combines these roles with a love of travel and a fear of boredom to create a way of supporting herself and her family while improving the lives of people with dementia and their care partners. She is associated with Dementia Alliance of North Carolina, Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care, Bunn Consulting, and Duke University School of Nursing. She is currently the Visiting Nurse Scholar for the Duke Health System.
Melanie received her undergraduate degree in nursing from UNC-Chapel Hill (1983), her Master’s Degree from Clemson University (1987) and a Post-Master’s Gerontological Nurse Practitioner Certificate from Duke University (1991).
She is a skilled and experienced advanced practice nurse and nurse educator, conducting over 200 presentations and trainings annually to health professionals, community organizations, first responders, families and others. She volunteered as an Alzheimer’s Support Group Facilitator for over 25 years.
